A COMMUNITY CHAMPION

Elder Clyde W. Harris, affectionately known as CW or Preach, is a dedicated spiritual leader and the principal founder of Newborn Community of Faith Church in Baltimore, MD. A lifelong resident of Sandtown-Winchester, Elder Harris has witnessed the area’s challenges firsthand and devoted his life to transforming the community through faith, compassion, and tireless advocacy. Through initiatives like Intersection of Change, Strength to Love II Farm, Martha’s Place, and Jubilee Arts, he has addressed critical issues such as addiction recovery, urban renewal, arts education, and reentry support for returning citizens. His work reflects a profound commitment to social justice, drawing inspiration from influential figures such as Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Gordon Cosby, John Perkins, and Dr. Bill Winston. Elder Harris’s vision for a better future continues to inspire change and uplift countless lives, embodying the church’s historical role in promoting equality and support for those in need.

The INITIATIVES

Through Intersection of Change, Elder Clyde W. Harris has spearheaded impactful programs that address critical challenges facing Sandtown-Winchester. His initiatives include Martha’s Place, providing recovery and housing for women overcoming addiction and homelessness; Strength to Love II Farm, an urban farming and reentry program for returning citizens; and Jubilee Arts, a creative hub offering classes in dance, ceramics, and writing. In addition to these transformative efforts, Elder Harris serves as the Vice President of C.U.T.S. (Clergy United for the Transformation of Sandtown), fostering collaboration among faith leaders to support community growth. He also founded Dancing Chaplains, combining his passion for dance with spiritual outreach to inspire joy and healing. Elder Harris has championed neighborhood revitalization, turning abandoned spaces into community gardens and murals. These efforts embody his steadfast commitment to holistic development, fostering resilience, and creating opportunities for individuals to thrive.
